Imagine exchanging your vows beneath a magnificent 300-year-old lime tree, surrounded by the fragrance of roses and lavender, with your family and friends gathered in one of Kent's most beautiful private gardens. The Rose Garden Gazebo at Nettlestead Place provides a wonderfully romantic setting for outdoor wedding ceremonies, where nature, history and timeless elegance come together to create an unforgettable beginning to your married life. Licensed for ceremonies of up to 120 guests, it's one of those places that simply feels made for saying "I do".
The Rose Garden is one of the most cherished areas of the estate and remains one of the owners' greatest passions. Throughout the wedding season, fragrant climbing roses, lavender and beautifully maintained borders surround the elegant timber gazebo, while mature hedging and traditional stone walls create an intimate and peaceful setting. As guests gather beneath the shade of the magnificent lime tree, every ceremony feels wonderfully relaxed, personal and completely immersed in nature. By carefully limiting the number of weddings we host each season, our dedicated gardening team has the time to present the gardens at their very best for every couple, ensuring the setting looks as beautiful as the occasion itself.
“The Rose Garden took our breath away the moment we saw it. We knew instantly it was where we wanted to say ‘I do’.”
– Emily & James
There's something truly special about celebrating outdoors. The gentle sounds of nature, the scent of the gardens in bloom and the relaxed atmosphere all help create a ceremony that feels natural, intimate and wonderfully memorable. Many couples tell us that exchanging their vows in the Rose Garden creates some of their favourite memories of the entire day, while photographers love the soft natural light and spectacular backdrop the gardens provide. Whether it's your first glimpse of each other, your walk back down the aisle as newlyweds or those quiet moments together afterwards, the gardens provide beautiful opportunities for timeless photographs.
As much as we'd all love guaranteed sunshine, British weather can occasionally be unpredictable. Should the weather make an outdoor ceremony unsuitable, there's no need to worry. Your ceremony can simply move into our beautiful licensed Undercroft, a stunning 13th-century vaulted space full of warmth, character and history. Likewise, if your drinks and canapés reception needs to move indoors, our recently enlarged marquee entrance provides a bright and welcoming sheltered space. Guests can continue to relax and celebrate together without moving into the wedding breakfast area, allowing the day to flow naturally whatever the weather.
One of the comments we hear time and again is how many guests have never visited Nettlestead Place before. For many couples, that's part of its charm. Sharing such a beautiful and historic setting with the people you love makes the day feel even more personal and creates memories that remain long after the celebrations have ended.
“Our guests are still talking about how beautiful the gardens were. It really did feel like we’d discovered one of Kent’s hidden gems.”
– Sophie & Daniel
Whether you've always imagined an outdoor ceremony beneath the gazebo or would simply like to explore the possibilities, we'd be delighted to show you around the Rose Garden and discuss how your wedding day could unfold.
